Agustí Fernández
Artist

Agustí Fernández is, as his name suggests, the musician who stars in Agustí Fernández: Los Dedos Huéspedes. Our advanced sonic explorer and extended piano maestro has been director of the Big Ensemble del Taller de Músics, as well as founding member of the IBA Collective (Improvisers of Barcelona). He was also the director of TVE’s Glasnost programme and founder of the Trio Local… and a bazillion other things that won’t fit into this introduction. He’s recorded over 50 records.

Àlex Navarro
Jury

Àlex Navarro, trained in image and sound as his springboard into production and has been a member of MEDIA Antena Catalunya since 2002. He has also managed cultural affairs for TVE. SA, Consell de la Joventut and COOB'92. 

Ariel Rot
Artist

 

The Argentinean Ariel Rot broke hundreds of hearts and dislocated just as many hips as frontman for Tequila between 1978 and 1983. Then in the nineties, he formed the equally popular Los Rodríguez before proceeding with his solo career. A frequent collaborator with Jaime Urrutia, we have him here thanks to his appearance in Jaime Urrutia: La Fuerza de la Costumbre.

Aurora Moreno

Aurora Moreno is Head of International Promotion for Filmoteca de Catalunya. She was previously Director General of the Fundació Privada Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya and director of audiovisual promotion and distribution for the ICIC. 

Brad Adamson
Jury

Brad Adamson is Vice-President of programming for VH1. He's produced documentaries such as VH1 Rock Docs and various Emmy winners, including Anvil! The story of Anvil and Woodstock: Now and then

Carl Bârat
Artist

Carl Barât is the peculiar fringed dandy that accompanied Pete Doherty in his joyrides with The Libertines and later, having gone their separate ways, in Dirty Pretty Things. He’s a rockstar that’s seen it all, done it all and worn the T-shirt. We look forward to scenes of Beatlemania with his visit to Beefeater In-Edit 2011.

 

 

Carles Prats
Director

Carles Prats has already graced us with his presence and the documentary Loquillo Leyenda Urbana. Beefeater In-Edit 2011 sees him return with an intimate film about Joe Strummer’s “lost years”: Quiero Tener una Ferretería en Andalucía. Prats has directed many other documentaries and television programmes like Stromboli, in addition to writing a book about 007.

Carlos Vega

Carlos Vega és un participant a l’ombra de la nova onada espanyola, ja que és el germaníssim d’Antonio Vega i li va compondre alguns temes. La seva participació al Work in Progress Antonio Vega. Tu voz entre otras mil és una excusa immillorable per tenir-lo entre nosaltres discutint la glòria del seu germà.

Christian Hund, Carsten Christochowitz & Uwe Wältring
Director

Christian Hund, Carsten Christochowitz and Uwe Wältring are the directors of Music from the Moon, winner of In-Edit Deutschland 2011. The trio are founding member of GUCC graphic & film. Their films tend to deal with inter-cultural dialogue. 


Demian Fenton
Director

Demian Fenton worked alongside Don Argot in Rock School, Two days in April and The Art of Steal. His company is called 9.14 Pictures and is based in Philadelphia. His latest documentary is, of course, Last Days Here.

Eddie Berg
Jury

Eddie Berg has been Director of London's BFI Southbank since 2007, when this new and improved version of the NFT opened. He has been on a multitude of juries (like that of the BAFTA) and has also been awarded prizes. 

Fermín Muguruza
Director

The Basque musician Fermín Muguruza once again demonstrates his bravery, this time getting behind the camera to explore the sound of Morocco. Before this, he treated us to Bass-que Culture and Checkpoint Rock: Canciones desde Palestina.

George Scott
Director

Scotsman George Scott has tackled documentary themes as diverse as the twentieth anniversary of Screamadelia, Rufus Wainwright (with Prima Donna), Melody Gardot, Pinochet’s widows or Carla Bruni.  He comes to Beefeater In-Edit 2011 to present us with Toots & The Maytals.

Georgia Guerra-Peixe
Director

Georgia Guerra-Peixe was born in Rio de Janeiro. He works for the producer, Bossa Nova Films. He has previously directed publicity fiction mini-series for diverse corporations.

Gormand Bechard
Director

Gorman Bechard looks a bit like Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics. He’s already got two feature films under his belt, Friends With Benefits andYou are AloneColor Me Obsessed, astonishingly enough, is his first documentary.

Heidi Fleisher
Jury

Heidi Fleischer is an America producer, who’s been living in France since 1997. In 2005 she launched her solo career as an independent film consultant and is currently working as a specialist for the Sunny Side of the Doc Festival.


Henrique Dantas
Director

Henrique Dantas is the director of the worthwhile documentary Filhos de Joao about the group Novos Baianos, winner of In-Edit Brazil 2011. His awards, distinctions and productions take up too many pages and there’s no way to abbreviate them, so let’s just say that he was born in 1972 in Salvador.

Isaki Lacuesta

Isaki Lacuesta has been described as the most promising of Spanish directors. His films include Cravan vs Cravan, La leyenda del tiempo, Los pasos dobles (Winner of a Golden Shell at The San Sebastián International Film Festival) and El cuaderno de barro, among others. When he isn’t filming, he gives classes and writes. 

Jaime de la Puente & Paloma Concejal
Director

Jaime de la Puente and Paloma Concejal are the directors of the WIP: Antonio Vega. Tu Voz Entre Otras Mil. The former is an audiovisual producer for Canal+ and Head of Images for news channel CNN+. The latter is director of informative and cultural programmes for Canal +.

Jaime Urrutia
Artist

Jaime Urrutia needs no introduction. Epic founder of Spanish new wave, for a decade Urrutia was frontman for Gabinete Caligari and is responsible for some of the best Spanish pop hits post-1977. He remains extremely active, as demonstrated by the documentary at this year’s Beefeater In-Edit 2011 Jaime Urrutia: La Fuerza de la Costumbre.

Juanjo Javierre

Juanjo Javierre was born in Huesca, was a founding member of Mestizos and does far too many things to list here. His projects include Mondo Soul, Profesor Somno and Nu Tempo. He also directed the documentary España Baila. 

Julie Bergeron
Jury

Julie Bergeron is the head of Vision-in-Motion, the film event production house that has organized the Cinéma du Québec in Paris since 2004. She is also Manager of the Producers Network at Marché du Film / Festival de Cannes.


Laura Llamas Blasco & Victor Morilla
Director

Directors Laura Llamas and Víctor Morilla snuck around the gypsy guitarist’s home like curious little mice. It’s hard to believe this is their first feature-length film. Both have worked previously in TV and advertising.

Lucas Caraba
Director

They gave Lucas Caraba a photo camera and a radio-cassette player at 11 years of age, and in doing so, forged his destiny. He has been a writer and director for theatre and radio, photographer, scriptwriter and today directs TV programmes, alone or in the company of other misfits. Agustí Fernández - Los Dedos Huéspedes is his latest work. 

Lydia Zimmermann

Lydia Zimmermann is an actress, scriptwriter and director who was born in Barcelona but works internationally. Her role in Elisa K contributed to the film winning the Special Jury Prize at San Sebastián 2010. 

Matt O'Casey
Director

Matt O’Casey has been playing in bands for thirty years and making documentaries for twenty. His acclaimed films include: Wouldn’t It Be Nice (2004), One Way or Another (2006), Don’t Stop (2009) and Dennis Wilson - The Real Beach Boy (2009). This year he’s gracing us with Queen – Days of our Lives.

Michael Nyman

Michael Nyman is one of the world’s most advanced and recognized (and recognizable) composers. Notorious bruiser of orchestras (due to his syncopated symphonies), the composer of The Piano and The Draughtsman Contest treads the red carpet of our Festival thanks to the film Michael Nyman in Progress.

Montaser Marai
Other guests

Montaser Marai is Executive Producer of the Programming Department at Al Jazeera. Previously, he was Head of Production for the same channel. He comes to Beefeater In-Edit 2011 as the instigator responsible for Next Music Station: Morocco de Fermín Muguruza.

Morgan Neville
Director

Sun Records, The Stooges, Brian Wilson, James Brown and Burt Bacharach are some of the themes that Morgan Neville has covered in his documentaries. He has also been awarded prizes for films about Hank Williams, Stax Records and for Johnny Cash’s America.

Paulinho Boca de Cantor
Artist

Paulinho Boca de Cantor is short for Paulo Roberto Figueiredo de Oliveira, the Brazilian singer and composer of MPB who formed part of the great Novos Baianos. After enriching the cultural world with sensational records like Acabou Chorare (1972), Paulinho started going solo around 1979. He hasn’t stood still since then. 

Quim Casas

Quim Casas is a film writer and critic. He collaborates with Dirigido Por, El Periódico and Rockdelux. He’s a member of the Selection Committee for the San Sebastián Film Festival and a professor at Barcelona’s Universitat Pompeu Fabra. 


Raimundo Amador
Artist

Raimundo Amador, ex-Veneno and ex-Pata Negra, is (as you well know), the most important flamenco-rock guitarist in the world. It’s an honour to have him as a guest at this year’s Beefeater In-Edit 2011, after watching the intimate Papagordo. En Casa de Raimundo Amador, we consider him practically a dear old friend.

Roger Sargent
Director

Roger Sargent has done it all: mod and punk, budding popstar in the band Fabulous, and famous photographer for NME, Melody Maker, Mojo, The Guardian and I.D., among many others. His latest work is the documentary The Libertines: There Are no Innocent Bystanders. He has been defined as “England’s most important music photographer”.

Sergio Castro
Director

Sergio Castro is the director of Electrodomésticos: El Frío Misterio, winner of the best national film for In-Edit Chile 2010. He is currently working on his second fiction film: La Mujer de Barro and making a documentary on the band Tortoise to premiere at en In-Edit Chile 2011. 

Silvia Beck
Director

Sylvia Beck is the director of Michael Nyman in Progress. In her filmography, we also find Leninland and Veil of the Temple – A Journey to the End of the Night.

Stephen C. Mitchell
Director

Stephen C. Mitchell is a friend of the band, and someone who’s infinitely familiar with all things Oklahoman. Kings of Leon are the executive producers of this impressive, revealing and profound big screen debut.

Xarc Ruiz, Xavier Puig & Raimon Fransoy
Director

Marc Ruiz, Xavier Puig and Raimon Fransoy are the authors of the WIP on Adrià Puntí. His company is called Elsabeth Here at Beefeater In-Edit we know them well, thanks to the inclusion of their mini-documentaries Carretera and Mantra in previous editions of the festival. They also made Rossy, about the jazz musician Jorge Rossy, which debuted at Beefeater Inedit 2010 and was aired on Canal 33.
